16 Essential questions you absolutely must ask before hiring any electrician or other contractor or handyman to avoid a horrible, rotten, no good, very bad experience.
Will you guarantee the price in writing before you start the work, even if it takes you twice as long as you expected or if you need to run to get parts numerous times?
Will your estimate break down the pricing and describe all the tasks to be done, or will it just be a lump sum price?
Are you sending out a company employee or are you going to do the work personally?
Do you use subcontractors?
Do you have the required expertise working in existing homes of all ages or do you primarily work in new construction?

Does your company have a valid Electrical contractor’s licence in their name or do they work under a “licensed qualified agent” that is not directly involved with the company?
Are you prepared to prove that you have at least 1 million dollars in liability insurance?
[If you have employees] Are you prepared to prove that every employee is covered under 1 million dollars worth of  worker’s compensation insurance or are you working under a “Comp exempt” provision of the law that can make me financially liable if you get hurt on my property?
Are you a member of the Better Business Bureau and how many complaints have been filed against you with them?
Does all the work that you do have at least a one year guarantee?
Do all your panel changes and service changes (heavy-ups) have a five year guarantee?
Do you offer an optional lifetime guarantee on electric breaker service panels?
If I am not 100% satisfied with the service that you perform, what is your policy on returning to correct the work or refunding my money?
Do you perform criminal background checks and on going random drug testing on all people that you employ to ensure my family’s safety?
Will you patch any holes in my walls or ceiling that you need to make to install wiring?
